Description Additional Info

Designed to fit all 1990-2005 model year Mazda Miata, this high quality convertible top will keep your Miata looking its absolute finest. Includes a new heated glass window and is made from our heavier than cabrio Trilogy Acoustic Vinyl.

Years of development and engineering went into this convertible top window bonding method. The objective was to design and develop a manufacturing method and process that would virtually eliminate window separation or leaking....the number one failure for glass window convertible tops. The result was a patented production technology that involves wrapping the fabric around an internal ring that adheres to the glass. A new bonding agent was specially created by 3M engineers based on military specification during the development phase to ensure this adhesive, when applied in a multi-step automated process, could withstand extreme tension in all temperatures.

To ensure the exact quantity, placement and even distribution of adhesive during the production process, a entirely new manufacturing system had to be invented. And, since not all convertible top windows are the same, unique tooling had to be engineered and manufactured to ensure the ring and window lined up perfectly every time as the bonding agent is applied by the robot. The multiple steps, or phases, in the production process match the custom engineered tool and ring to the window for each vehicle. The fabric has been carefully notched by a computer controlled cutter around the radius of the ring to ensure proper adhesion around the entire perimeter to eliminate potential of leaking. The technology is unique and protected by worldwide patents.

We developed this superior vinyl material to be heavier, quieter, more durable and more flexible than other vinyls. It is an acoustically enhanced vinyl with a twill (cloth-like) pattern and 100% polyester backing for superior strength and longevity.

Pre-installed Rain Rail Option

We offer both designs either with or without a rain rail. A rain rail is a U-shaped, molded ABS plastic piece that attaches to the rear bottom of the convertible top. It directs any water collected, out drain holes to keep it from entering your interior cabin and trunk.

Unless your top is leaking, you may not a new rain rail, however, there are good reasons you should consider getting one anyway.

There is a significant amount of time and labor involved to drill out the old rain rail and reinstall it on a new top properly - without any wrinkles. If you are doing it yourself, and are sure your existing rain rail is in good shape then you can save some money by purchasing a new top without the rain rail, but if your rain rail is brittle or cracked it will leak and cause problems. We offer the option to add a factory installed rain rail. We'll professionally install the rain rail to the convertible top before shipping. This only adds one day to the delivery at most, but may be done the same day.

Great top, weak instructions October 7, 2017

I put a lot of time into this top install and the final fit and finish is great.  Much of my time however was spend researching install methods and trying to determine if I had done it correctly or not.

One of the biggest challenges I had was with the "headliner" flap to the 2nd bow.  I still don't know if my routing is 100% correct or not but it works, so that is all that matters.  Autotops' directions state to pass the headliner flap "under the 4th bow," so that is what I did, with it passing over the 3rd and second bow and then wrapping back under the second bow into the listing groove.  Some installations online have the headliner passing over the top of all bows and I think that would work fine too, but after re-doing the listing 3 times, I wasn't going to go for a 4th.

1 piece Cabrio Vinyl non Zip Top June 7, 2017

The fit and finish of this top may be the best I have installed. This was my third top installation on a Miata and it turned out the best looking of any. The vinyl has more of a canvas look than any I have installed or even seen. The corner spots were fitted well and the front rail plastic strip made the finish along the most important area perfect. I would recommend this top WITH rain rail.

Solid product, directions...not so much December 21, 2016
Reviewer: Tim W. from Arnold, MD United States
I had trouble ordering online.  Every time I tried to check out, the system gave me some sort of database error.  I sent an e-mail to Auto Tops Direct, but no one ever responded.  I called in and the guy helped me, but it lost me a couple days in getting the new top in.

My son and I installed the top.  It took three tries to get it right.  The directions are poor at best.  Steps show up out of order.  Photos repeat.  Captions don't match the pictures.  I spent a lot of time reading blogs and forums to get the info we needed to complete the project.

The material is very nice.  The rain rail had a rivet installed in one of the holes for the studs, so we had to drill it out.  The other holes lined up with the studs...almost.  We ended up widening a few holes with a drill to make the thing fit.

Overall, if you're a very patient DIYer (or an expert), I can recommend this as a solid option for replacing your top.

Sure looks good November 9, 2016
Reviewer: Marc Riendeau from Moscow, ID United States
I'm a professional mechanic, but I had never replaced a convertible top.  It really didn't require any special tools, just time and patience.  My only complaint is the lack of instructions, but once I had it figured out and installed, the top looked great, maybe even better then when the car was new. The second difficulty has nothing to do with the product, when I did the installation, my shop was about 50 degrees, therefor it considerable effort to "stretch" the top enough to properly attach all the fasteners.  Another issue was that the new top did bear out the fact that my old latches are worn, but once replaced, all was good. Again, worn hardware has nothing to do with the product.  The end product was very nice.  It fits well, had no wrinkles.  It is much quieter then the old factory top.  So far it has been great.  If you are a do-it-yourself person, and you have the time and patience, you can have professional results and save a bucket of money doing this yourself.
