Your 1997–2002 Porsche Boxster Replacement Convertible Top is manufactured using premium marine-grade Graphite Gray German (Sonnenland) A5 acoustically enhanced canvas fabric. What makes this top special is that it is manufactured with the German A5 topping material, by the same supplier Porsche uses. The canvas is an acoustically enhanced three-ply composite made of an acrylic twill weave outer fabric, a rubber inner layer, and a polyester lining fabric. The window is made using tempered safety glass and marked AS-2 to show it meets all requirements of the National Traffic and Vehicle Safety Act and the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, No. 205 (Glazing Materials CF MVSS 205). The window is already pre-sewn and heat-sealed into the top for a solid fit and long life.

It took us 4 man-hours to remove the old top and about 8 man hours to install the new top. Very happy with the results.
Note that when they talk about the glass window being smaller, it is about the same width but the height is notably less. I drove 60 miles to Minneapolis yesterday, noted that visibility was less but still just fine.
I had zero wind noise from the new top.

Based on reviews from the 986 Forum and others, I took the plunge and purchased a new top with the intent of installing it myself. I am very pleased with the quality of the product. The fit and finish is excellent. I would encourage Autotops to provide pictures with higher resolution, and more of them in the instructions. While Autotops makes it clear that they advise having a professional install the top, many installers will not install what they don’t sell. For many enthusiasts, being able to save money is a necessity, and DYI-ers, like myself, are going to take the plunge. After ordering, the top was shipped quickly and waspackaged well. Installtion was done quickly and easily. The only thing I would have been nice to have a little more detail on was where the phillips head screws on the side rails are located, as one one each side is hidden under a rubber seal. Other than that everything looks great. The top fits great and is a huge improvment over the one that was on the car. I will recomend this top to anyone that askes.
